Brussels will allocate 179 million to promote agri-food products in 2018

The European Commission today approved a budget of 100 million euros for the promotion in 2018 of European agri-food products outside the European Union (EU), as well as other 79 million to encourage the consumption of fruits and vegetables.

The co-financing by the Commission will be directed mainly to those products that seek promote large markets where there is growth potential, such as China, Japan, Southeast Asia, Mexico, Colombia and Canada.

These funds may be requested from January 2018, as indicated by the institution in a press release, where it stated that "the accent will be placed" on those products labeled "bio", with Protected Geographical Indication (PGI), Protected Designation of Origin (PDO) or Traditional Specialization Guaranteed (TSG).

Another specific item of 79 million will also be destined to the promotion of fruit consumption and pulses within the borders themselves, as well as to claim the quality of European producers and their agricultural holdings.
