Industrial production in Mexico down 0.5% in the first nine months

Industrial production in Mexico decreased by 0.5% in the first nine months of the year compared to the same period of 2016, due to the decrease of three of its four components, reported today the National Institute of Statistics and Geography (Inegi).

Mexico, Nov 10 (EFE) .- Industrial production in Mexico fell by 0.5% in the first nine months of the year compared to the same period of 2016, due to the decrease of three of its four components, reported today the National Institute of Statistics and Geography (Inegi).

This figure was the result of decreases of 10.1% in mining, 1.2% in construction and 0, % in the generation of electricity and water and gas supply, while the manufacturing industry grew by 3.4% in its annual comparison.

In September, industrial activity decreased by 1.2% due to the fall in mining (15.1%), while manufacturing production increased (2.8%), electricity generation (1.4%) and construction (0.1%) seasonally adjusted data, industrial activity registered a 0.4% decrease in September compared to August.

Electricity generation and water and gas supply amounted to 1.8 %, construction by 0.8%, while mining production fell by 6.2% and the manufacturing industry fell by 0.1%.

Mexico's gross domestic product (GDP) increased 2, 2016, less than 2.5% in 2015, but higher than 2.1% in 2014 and 1.4% in 2013.
